Blessing & Dedication of the Statue of St. Catherine Labouré at St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Hospital

In a moving celebration of faith, service, and community, St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Hospital and Villa Maria West Skilled Nursing Facility welcomed clergy, staff, patients, and guests on May 15, 2025, for the blessing and dedication of a new statue of its patroness, St. Catherine Labouré.

The ceremony was led by Archbishop Thomas Wenski, who offered the official blessing of the statue, now permanently installed on the hospital grounds as a symbol of healing, hope, and compassionate care. The beautifully crafted statue honors the saint known for the miraculous medal inspired by her visions.

Mary Jo Frick, President and CEO of Catholic Health Services, welcomed the crowd with heartfelt remarks. “When this building was in the planning stages, many years ago, St. Catherine was chosen to emphasize the purpose of our work here as the patron saint of the elderly and infirmed, with faith to move mountains, she was the perfect choice,” she said.

Nathaniel Johnson, Executive Director of Villa Maria West Skilled Nursing Facility, offered a moving reflection on the life and legacy of St. Catherine Labouré. “, Her life reminds us that God often chooses the quiet, the humble, and the hidden to do His greatest work.” Johnson shared.

Dr. Brian Kiedrowski, Chief Medical Officer for CHS and Acting Hospital Administrator for St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Hospital, concluded the program by expressing gratitude for the hospital’s mission-driven staff and the ongoing support of the Catholic Health Services community. “This is more than a dedication—it’s a symbol of faith, compassion, and service made of stone to keep us steadfast on our mission.,” Dr. Kiedrowski noted.

A special award was presented from the City of Hialeah Gardens recognizing outstanding contributions of St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation to the community.

A highlight of the ceremony was the children of Centro Mater as they delighted the attendees with an adorable and spirited performance, drawing warm smiles and applause from all present.

Following the outdoor blessing, guests were invited inside for guided tours of the facility, showcasing recent renovations and advancements in patient care. Refreshments were served, allowing attendees to connect and celebrate the hospital’s ongoing commitment to healing in the spirit of its patron saint.
