Health & Safety Expo Empowers Spanish-Speaking Seniors in South Florida

July 21, 2025

More than 350 attendees gathered for the highly successful Health & Safety Expo for the Elderly (Expo de Salud y Más en la Tercera Edad), held on July 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Hosted in partnership by Catholic Health Services (CHS) and Univision, the event brought together health experts, media personalities, and community advocates to empower and inform Spanish-speaking adults 45 and older on vital topics related to aging, safety, and wellness.

The event was hosted and emceed by Javier Romero, beloved national television and radio personality, known for his decades of trusted Spanish-language broadcasting. Univision’s Noticias 23 provided live on-site coverage, and attendees were thrilled by a surprise appearance from Ambrosio Hernández, the station’s prime news anchor, who came to support and promote the event.

Throughout the morning, attendees heard from a series of expert speakers on critical topics:

  • Marbelys Ramos, Strategic Communications and Marketing Media Manager at CHS, offered a timely presentation on how to protect oneself from online and phone scams, a growing concern among seniors.
  • Raiza Figueredo, Associate Director of Business Development for Miami-Dade, spoke about the importance of rehabilitation and understanding the different levels of care available after hospitalization.
  • Cecelia Heredia, Physical Therapist with Catholic Home Health, delivered a hands-on session on fall prevention and home safety strategies for aging individuals.
  • Dr. Angel E. Sanchez, representing Catholic Hospice, educated the audience about the importance of advance care planning, urging families to have open and early conversations.
  • Yadira Rudea Camacho, from Catholic Cemeteries, closed the event with thoughtful guidance on funeral preplanning as a gift of peace for loved ones.

The event received widespread community support and extensive media coverage. Backed by a robust campaign including a paid TV media schedule, station promos, social media outreach, support from El Nuevo Herald, radio mentions, and live Univision coverage, the event is projected to have delivered approximately 1.5 million impressions to adults aged 65 and older.

Attendees left the expo informed, inspired, and better equipped to make proactive decisions for their health, safety, and legacy. The partnership between CHS and Univision served as a powerful platform to uplift the Hispanic elderly community and ensure their voices and needs remain a priority in public health dialogue.
