St. John’s Summer Luau

A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast that is usually accompanied by entertainment. At St. John’s we utilized the traditional Hawaiian party as a way to celebrate another wonderful summer together. The residents who attended received gift bags, prizes, hats and were entertained by a traditional Polynesian dancer that also provided  cultural history and various dances from other cultures. A number of the staff members were taught how to hula dance. The residents had a marvelous time sipping punch out of their coconut or pineapple cups, while socializing and eating with friends and family.  – Garland Jones, M.S., CTRS, Director of Recreational Therapy/Activities, Volunteer Coordinator, St. John’s Nursing Center
