HUD and Catholic Housing Management/Archdiocese of Miami close on new Section 202 Housing Community in Pompano Beach at St. Joseph Haitian Mission

(February 21, 2014, Lauderdale Lakes, FL) Catholic Housing Management (part of the CHS affiliates), a ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami, closed on a HUD Capital Advance Grant for $8,745,500 for a 62-unit complex on the site of St. Joseph Haitian Mission in Pompano Beach on Thursday, February 20, 2014. The grant includes an annual subsidy of $649,000 for three years with annual renewals. Ground breaking on construction of the project is expected immediately after closing. “We are very excited to be adding our next community in the St. Joseph Haitian Mission area where the need is so great for low income housing,” comments Joseph Catania, CEO of Catholic Health Services. Architects on the project are Chisholm Architects and the construction company will be Beauchamp Construction. The 62, one bedroom apartment units will be designed with all the appropriate conveniences and amenities typical of these communities which also have an additional staff unit. Completion is expected spring of 2015 and full occupancy soon afterwards. Applications will be accepted starting fall of 2014. The new property on St. Joseph Haitian Mission will be the 16th community for Catholic Housing Management, who currently operates fifteen HUD subsidized apartment complexes for active, independent seniors with limited financial resources in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. All communities are located adjacent to Catholic parishes and many have received overall scores of "SUPERIOR" in the Management & Occupancy Review (MOR) by North Tampa Housing Development Corporation. “We are hopeful that the federal funding that makes these projects possible and helps us provide these services to the communities that can benefit the most, will continue into the future” said Juana D. Mejia, Director of Elderly Housing Services. For additional information on Catholic Health Services and low income elderly housing, please visit www.catholichealthservices.org ###
