Fiber Facts for Our New Year’s Diet

Now that the eating frenzy is almost over, we can shift gears, get back on track and focus on treating the fabulous temple that God has given us with a little more respect ........as we get ready for swimsuit season :0) . The Focus today is on Fiber....when we think of fiber we usually think "bowel movement" but fiber does much more than moving the sludge along in the gut.... it helps fight: Heart disease by lowering cholesterol
  • Diabetes by stabilizing the blood sugar
  • Fiber also minimizes the risk of gastrointestinal disease and high blood pressure
From what foods do we get our fiber? (Soluble fiber.....dissolves in water) The fleshy part of most fruits,
  • Good old fashion oatmeal
  • Beans (Insoluble Fiber) found in many fruits (with the skin on)
  • Vegetables...especially the ones you pluck from the ground
In general, a daily intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains should get you off to a healthy start this New Year. Wash it all down with lots of good fresh tasting H2O, and then step it up a notch by marching in place as you do the dishes or watch TV...Chomp on a carrot instead of a cookie....every little bit counts toward a healthier you. May the Lord blessed you plenty this New Year.
