Bonnie, the parrot, celebrated 30 years of service at Villa Maria Nursing Center as our resident pet therapist. Parrots and some other species of birds are known to be extremely empathetic and tuned into the emotional environment around them. They can sense stress and tension, anger and distress in their owners, before these bubbling feelings break the surface. Such sensitivity can be harnessed and birds, like other species, can be trained to use these abilities to help individuals with emotional disabilities.
Ellyn Robinson (Pet Therapy Coordinator) and founder of our pet therapy program at Villa Maria Nursing Center is an incredibly helpful resource of information on all things regarding Bonnie. Michelle Newman (Pet Therapy Volunteer) has a wonderful cheerful attitude and friendly manner in which she visits all of our residents & patients two days per week. Both Ellyn an Michelle have been volunteering at Villa Maria for the past 30 years as well!!!
Thank you both for your amazing years of dedicated service!!!!
