Wow, can you believe it, another new year and I’m a half a century old, OUCH! Often this is a time to reflect, to make plans, a time to evaluate what works and change what doesn’t. How many of you do this every year and how many of you stick to the “new” plan? Well, I am the first to admit that I struggle with this.
As for me my new year’s plan is to get a grip on my eating and exercise. After all, as my mother in law said “we are not getting any younger or better looking”. In recent years I have found myself slowly gaining weight. This is bad for many reasons. The obvious one is how I look but more seriously I find that back injuries and joint aches and pains are common with age and weight gain. So with my decision made I thought, how do I do this and stick with it?
Personally for me eating is a social affair and I enjoy being around people. I decided that the best way for me to accomplish this was to figure out a way to make it a team effort so we started a group at work. I haven’t figured out what to call it but everyone was happy to be a part of it. We brought in a scale and we elected a “keeper of the weight”. We picked a goal for ourselves and will work to achieve that goal.
There is no money involved at this point. We are simply sticking together for moral support. I am open to suggestions on how to make this a contest with some incentives. I am just not creative enough to come up with it by myself.
This is February and as I am in charge of the blog I will keep everyone posted. I will not publish my weight but I will tell you my goals. As for the diet I am using concepts from both Weight Watchers and South Beach. I am using the http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ website to keep track of my information and keep me honest with myself.
- To lose 10 pounds by the end of the year
- To exercise at least 30 minutes 4 times a week
- To eat healthy
