Centro Mater provides services to infant, toddlers, a Pre-School, before- and after-school K to 6th grade. We bring our commitment and innovation to education. Centro Mater is one of the few programs that serve families with children from infancy to school age on the same site. This experience gives us a unique inside vision to get pre-school children ready for school.
The centers create a safe, nurturing environment that allows children to be problem-solvers, independent explorers and creative thinkers.

The majority of Centro Mater staff is bilingual in English and Spanish, reflecting the ethnic composition of our clients. The staff is highly qualified and experienced. Our seven service area managers are experts in their respective fields with decades of combined years working with disadvantaged children and families. Our fifty four teachers and fifty one teacher assistants are highly motivated to provide the best possible early childhood experience to our children.
We follow the Creative Curriculum for infants and toddlers; the High/Scope Approach for pre-schoolers and the Pinnacle curriculum for the after-school children. Literacy is enhanced by the following strategies: Literacy Express curriculum. Phonological awareness and the Shared Reading techniques are used daily in the pre-school classrooms. Galileo, a complete electronic assessment with online capabilities that links planning, individualization, outcome documentation, and program enhancement for pre-school is monitored live by the Curriculum Specialist, allowing us to monitor and maintain the quality of our educational services.
LitART LEARN is an integrated thematic literacy curriculum designed specifically for after school. Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK) is used for the physical activities and fitness component curriculum for the after-school children. The curriculum provides the necessary framework to offer developmentally appropriate activities for children with disabilities. The program has classrooms ADA accessible, ample indoor and outdoor space and is neat and appealing. The social skills curriculum is the Peace Works, developed by the Peace Education Foundation strives to create a positive school climate conducive to enhancing school safety by teaching conflict-resolution skills.
Over the forty years in operation, Centro Mater centers have established a record of the highest distinction serving a diverse population. They have obtained numerous National, regional and local accreditations and certifications. Centro Mater has been honored with a number of awards. Among its distinctions include the "Point of Light" Excellence Award and the Nation Heritage Hispanic Presidential Tribute.
In 2000-2001 Centro Mater was awarded the Governor’s Family Literacy Initiative for Florida, a Program of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and the South Florida Annenberg Challenge, Inc. This opportunity marked the beginning of a tremendous expansion in family literacy and parent involvement. Parents are encouraged to participate in the education of their children through conferences held at least twice a year. Parents also have the opportunity to provide their input and express their level of satisfaction with the program through the center committees, policy committee and satisfaction surveys.
